Transaxle breather

Hello All!
I'm aware that later transaxles had a breather. Is it worthwhile to fabricate one for the earlier transaxles?
Non-competition use, of course!
Opinions? Experiences?

Yes indeed !

A friend had a clan with a transaxle with no breather , it blew out the input shaft seal after the first 30 miles of getting it on the road due to pressure build up .

We fitted a tube in the top of the casing but it insisted on blowing oil out of the tube , we repositioned the tube to a 'quiet' area of the transaxle with no oil throw , still the oil blew out , we had to abandon the idea and use a later transaxle with breather ..

It's not easy to fit a breather to an old box , you have to drill the end of the input shaft to a depth of an inch or so then radialy drill ... to connect the drilling to the outside of the shaft , the thin breather tube then fits down into this hole . It stops the oil getting thrown out and seems the only way to do it ..

Sorry, Nick, you'll have to draw that one for us....

There's a task ! I fear the shaft is rather hard to drill ..
