To get better handling in village traffic, it was adapted - this change also meant a reduction from 100bhp to 90 bhp. The original 930cc Imp engine was enlarged to 1000cc for years, but it is 1040cc now. It will do 90 mph in 3rd gear or 70mph in 2nd. It has a close-ratio rally gearbox from a Hillman Avenger.
