Ex-Works Rally Car

Prepared for the 1972 Manx International Rally, this car surprised the rally world by finishing 2nd overall driven by Andy Dawson with codriver John Foden. Beaten only by the full house works Ford Escort Mk1 of Roger Clark, it created a demand for Clans aimed at the various motor sport disciplines.

The car was purchased in 1973 by Dave Williamson (the present Chairman of the Clan Owners Club) and, since then, it has regularly competed in club level motor sport - principally rallying. The bodyshell is largely unchanged from the original Manx specification, but the engine is considerably de-tuned to meet the current restrictions of classic rally events.

Capacity is 930cc running on a 28/36 DCD Weber carburettor and this is sufficient to propel the 600kg weight to a satisfactory performance given that the combined age of the husband and wife team is now 140 years!

During the past 38 years, the car has competed in some 200 events - what a bargain purchase that was!
