Entry number 54 in my Guestbook

I found interest in your page, but I was looking for my Friend Malcolm Prior, who raced for many years a Chrysley Californian for Group M, from about 1968 to 1972. He competed in the Osram and Esso special saloon championships and raced or practiced at the last Crystal Palace meeting, when the cam snapped.
I also raced against him in a Mini and raced against Ray Calcutt, John Homewood and John Schneider - all in imps in the late 60's and early 70's I was at the meeting where Barry Reece crashed at Castle Combe and after I was part of the film crew that produce a Barry Reece tribute race at Lydden hill and have this on film.

Dear Franka,

Malcolm Prior built the Chrysler Californian from scratch. It was an 848cc to start with and he did play with a 948cc one as well. He lived and worked in Shepherds Bush in London W12, and was also good friend with Paul Emery and Cliff Davis, both of notoriety. He campaigned in the Osram Special Saloon Championship from 1968 to about 1972. I don't know what he did with it, but I do see him from time to time so I will ask him.

As for the other drivers: I regularly raced against them in the Kent Messenger series and the Esso Special saloon car championship. Homewood and Calcutt were always at the front of the field whereas I was at the middle to the back. I did get better though and did win the TEAC Mini Miglia Championship twice in 1979 and 1980. I have started again with a 1293cc Austin Mk1 Cooper S in Historic's and my engine builders son is just completing tuned road going Imp.

Barry Reece was a good friend. He often raced against Malcolm Prior, but that was in a Mini - years before he got the Imp. Somewhere I do have the Barry Reece Tribute race on Video, as my brother has a very large film archive.

I do believe that there are 2 Imps that may be racing in the Historic Sports Car Club championship this year. I will keep a look out for them.

Regards
John Meale
